Steve Brule from Westech Perfomance describes his positive experience testing Lucas High Zinc Engine Break-In Oil

After having used and tested Lucas Oil Products for the last Six years, with excellent results, when Lucas introduced their new Engine Break in Oil we where anxious to try it. We were especially hoping it would offer some insurance for flat tappet camshaft break in. After adding Lucas Break in Oil and Break in Additive to our existing Lucas inventory I?m happy to say we? have not had any camshaft failures. With the added protection and power? of Lucas products I?m confident we have given our customers the best.

Stocks close near session highs

9 hrs.

Stocks extended their gains in the final hour of trading to close near session highs Thursday, with all key S&P sectors finishing in positive territory, but volume was light amid caution ahead of next week's flurry of earnings reports.

"The important thing is that we're starting to [see money move] into the financials, which is [an indication] of a real bull move to the upside," said Gordon Charlop, managing director at Rosenblatt Securities. "Because behind financials, you know housing is going to be behind that and that's been one of the things we've been waiting for."

The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 80.71 points, or 0.60 percent, to close at 13,471.22, led by Bank of America and Hewlett-Packard, after posting a modest gain in the previous session.

The S&P 500 rallied 11.10 points, or 0.76 percent, to finish at 1,472.12. The Nasdaqrose 15.95 points, or 0.51 percent, to end at 3,121.76.

The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX), widely considered the best gauge of fear in the market, fell near 13.

All key S&P sectors closed in positive territory, led by financials and energy.

"We're all waiting on earnings," said Joe Saluzzi,co-manager of trading at Themis Trading. "[The market] set a high watermark for 2012?volume's been low and it will stay low."?

Stocks initially opened in positive territory as Wall Street cheered a strong export data from China and upbeat comments from the European Central Bank on the euro zone.

The ECB held interest rates at a record low of 0.75 percent, refraining from a cut following fledgling signs of life in the euro zone economy and with inflation still above target.

ECB President Mario Draghi said while weakness in the euro zone area is expected to continue into 2013, economic activity should gradually recover later in the year.

"Several ... indicators have broadly stabilized, albeit at low levels and financial market confidence has improved significantly," said Draghi at a press conference.

China's export growth rebounded in December to $31.6 billion from $19.6 billion in November, expanding at the fastest rate in seven months. However, China's Commerce Ministry last month warned against hoping for an imminent recovery in trade, saying that world economic growth remained subdued.?

Herbalife turned negative after CEO Michael Johnson defended his company on CNBC after activist investor Bill Ackman called the firm an unsustainable "pyramid scheme." Meanwhile, hedge-fund manager Daniel Loeb's Third Point said Wednesday it had taken a stake of more than 8 percent in the company.?

Tiffany tumbled after the luxury goods retailer said its holiday season same-store sales were unchanged from the same period a year ago, below its own expectations, and added its fiscal-year earnings will be near the low-end of its prior estimates.

Ford Motor gained after the automaker declared it is doubling its quarterly dividend to 10 cents a share, just nine months after it announced its first dividend in nearly five years.

AppleCEO Tim Cook met with China Mobile's chairman in Shanghai, to discuss what the company calls "matters of cooperation." No details were given, but the meeting raised hopes that Apple may finally strike an iPhone carriage deal with China Mobile. Separately, Piper Jaffray lowered its price target on the tech giant to $875 from $900.

Microsoftslipped after Morgan Stanley downgraded the Dow component to "equal weight" from "overweight," citing disappointment regarding Windows 8 and a weak PC market.

Facebook rallied after closing above $30 a share in the previous session for the first time in six months. Late Tuesday, the social-networking giant sent out a press event invitation for next week, with traders and strategists buzzing about a possible phone or a search engine.

Nokia surged after the struggling Finnish handset maker said its fourth-quarter results were better than expected and that the mobile phone business achieved underlying profitability.

Chevron is scheduled to post its interim earnings after the closing bell.

Treasury prices pared their losses after the government auctioned $13 billion in 30-year notes at a high yield of 3.070 percent. The bid-to-cover was 2.77.

On the economic front, weekly jobless claims rose 4,000 to a seasonally adjusted 371,000, according to the Labor Department. Economists in a Reuters survey forecast a total of 365,000 new filings compared with 372,000 in the prior week.

And wholesale inventories rose 0.6 percent to a record $498.95 billion in November, according to the Commerce Department, topping expectations for a gain of 0.3 percent.?

Pioneer shows off 2013 headunit line, rocks our minds with bass video

Pioneer launched a stack of new sets this year for CES as well as an iPhone 5 connectivity solution for those left hanging since upgrading to Apple's latest phone. We've seen the headunit specs so we thought we'd give you a pic tour of the newest devices as well as a short clip of us sitting in the custom Lexus CT 200h playing with its ridiculous system. The centerpiece of the system is the AVH-X8500BHS receiver (above) and a custom Steampunk-inspired sub enclosure loaded with six PRS D800 amps. End result? hair-moving, skin-creeping bass and volume. We're digging seeing all the AppRadio expansion to Pioneers's line and can only hope we see prices drop -- and even become pack-ins -- for the now rather expensive connectivity cables.

Is this the year you write a book | EMSI

Tips, Tricks and How a Book? Can Help You

Writing a how-to business book or CEO memoir has become a recognized tool for marketing yourself and your business. It?s a great way to stand out from the competition, establish your expertise and share helpful information with the public. Plus, it can introduce you to a vast new audience of potential customers.

I discovered this almost by accident a few years after launching EMSI Public Relations in 1990. I noticed it was much easier to get clients on as talk show guests if they?d written a book ? even when their credentials were otherwise very similar to other clients.

After exploring the reasons, I realized just about anyone with the right message can write a book and use it to boost their visibility, not just business owners. Professionals such as doctors and lawyers can do it; people interested in securing public speaking engagements or hosting seminars; those supporting charitable causes; homemakers who turn their books themselves into a business.

That?s when I wrote my own book, Celebritize Yourself, which explains my three-step process for developing and using a book to get publicity.

Today, more than 11,000 business books alone are published each year ? and that doesn?t include self-published e-books, according to the authors of The 100 Best Business Books of All Time.

?Whether you?re using your book to generate media, speaking opportunities, new customers, or simply positioning you as the expert in your industry, your book is the most powerful marketing tool in your arsenal,? says Adam Witty, CEO of Advantage Media Group, an international publisher dedicated to entrepreneurs, business leaders and professional speakers.

?When you consider that the average book sells less than 2,000 copies, getting rich off of book sales becomes a far away fantasy. But if you use your book to get a feature in your industry trade journal, what is that worth? If your typical customer is worth $5,000, and you use your book to attract and generate new leads into your business, how much more valuable does your book become??

You don?t have to be a great writer to produce a great book. But, as New York Times best-selling author Michael Levin, CEO of Business Ghost, Inc., explains, you do need to make sure the end product is clean and professional.

?You wouldn?t walk into a sales call with a stain on your shirt, and it?s the same with a book,? he says. ?People may not be able to judge whether the writing is as good as William Shakespeare, but they sure can spot typos. The last thing you want to do is publish a book that gives people the impression you?re sloppy and not detail-oriented.?

If you don?t have the time or skill to tackle a book on your own, you can hire someone to put your ideas into words. Every level of collaboration is possible, from co-writing, to working with an editor for that professional polish, to hiring someone to do almost all of the work for you.

Levin offers these tips for selecting a ghostwriter:

  • Make sure ghostwriting is their primary business. Many writers list ghostwriting as one of the services they provide, but if you dig deep, you may find that they have never written a book or have only written a few. Don?t let them learn how to write a book on your dime!
  • Read the blurbs on the ghostwriter?s website. Are they from famous people, top business leaders, celebrities, and the like? Or is there a run-of-the-mill feeling to the testimonials? Or worse, are there no testimonials at all?
  • Contact at least three prior book clients of the ghostwriter. If the ghostwriter isn?t willing or able to give you three names of satisfied customers, game over.

Now that you?ve got your book, the next step is publishing it. While e-books are an inexpensive self-publishing option, if you?re using your book as a marketing tool, it?s best to get printed copies.

?There is no right or wrong way to publish a book. As an author, you simply need to determine which publishing model best helps you reach your goals,? says Witty of Advantage Media.

He offers these ideas to consider when making a decision:

  • Ownership of rights and intellectual property:? If you plan to re-purpose the content of your book into articles, blog posts or other products like home study kits, ensure your contract gives you that freedom. Typically, traditional publishing contracts don?t; self publishing or working with co-publishers (where the publisher and author or investor share expenses) oftentimes do.
  • Speed to?market: How quickly do you want your book to be published? With self publishing, it is really a matter of how fast you work! The traditional publishing process can take the better part of two years. Co-publishing options often turn a book around in three to six months.

Will you make 2013 the year you write and publish your book? Yes, the idea can be daunting, but as I?ve pointed out, a book is marketing gold.? And there are even greater rewards.

Having written and published my own, I can tell you it was one of my proudest accomplishments and worth every bit of my time and effort.? The greatest feeling ? one I never anticipated ? was hearing from readers who said that my book had made a difference in their lives.

That?s priceless.

America Continues to Come Up Short in Health and Lifespan

A study requested by the U.S. government, jointly conducted by the National Research Council and the Institute of Medicine , resulted in a report that reveals the state of health and lifespan in the nation continues to fall behind other industrialized nations. The trend is not a new one; it has been ongoing since the 1980s, but at that time the studies concentrated on the latter years of life in America.

U.S. Health in International Perspective

U.S. Health in International Perspective is the name of the report released today. In a quick summarization of the detailed information available, the basic conclusion reached is that although the United States spends more per person than any other nation in the world, its citizens are dying earlier and living their lives in poorer health than their counterparts in many other nations of the world.

Mortality Rate Statistics

In overall causes of death , age-adjusted statistics reveal the United States has the highest rate at slightly more than 500 per 100,000 of all the nations used for comparison -- 16 other nations, including Japan, Australia, Denmark and Portugal.

In the overall mortality rates for deaths caused by noncommunicable diseases , the United States ranked 16th out of 17 nations, with only Denmark having a higher rate than that of approximately 425 per 100,000.

Rates per death caused by injury also revealed America to rank 16th out of 17 nations with a rate of approximately 55 per 100,000.

In the sub-category of deaths caused by self-inflicted injuries , the United States 11th out of 17 countries with a rate slightly more than 10 per 100,000; in this category, Japan ranked the lowest with a rate of 20 per 100,000. The sub-category of deaths resulting from violence reveals the United States to rank the worst of all the compared nations with a rate of nearly seven per 100,000 -- more than twice the rate of Finland, rated the 16th worse rate at a little more than two per 100,000.

American Health Disadvantages

The report by the National Research Council identified areas of disadvantage in health for Americans that can be pointed to as causes of the poorer health quality and lagging lifespan in the nation, including obesity and diabetes, infant mortality and low birth weight, HIV/AIDS, drug-related deaths, injuries and homicides and adolescent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.

Read the U.S. Health in International Perspective Complete Report

The full report, numbering more than 400 pages, is available as a free download . Access to a summarized briefing of the full report is available on the report's homepage.

Bottom Line

Dr. Steven Woolf, chair of the department of family medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University and chair of the panel of researchers, stated to The New York Times , "Something fundamental is going wrong." Woolf further stated that the issues go beyond political party or administration. I say, "Amen" to those observations.

I question why it has taken more than 30 years of such studies before health experts became concerned about the state of health and the lifespan of Americans. The underlying issues span race, sex and age and should concern every American, the health care system, and the government. As American citizens we must demand better for ourselves and future generations.
