Muni communications system could receive funding boost next week ...

Nearly $15 million for Muni?s new central communications system could be allocated next week.

The funding would pay for a new public address and electronic display signs at Muni stations, an uninterruptible power supply system and an emergency alarm program.

The $14.9 million allocation will cover construction costs for the first phase of Muni?s Integrated System Replacement project, a $46.6 million undertaking that will replace five of the agency?s existing communications programs.

A committee of the San Francisco County Transportation Agency, a transit financing agency governed by the Board of Supervisors, will vote on the authorization on Tuesday. The money will come from Proposition K funding, a local sales initiative designed to support transportation infrastructure projects.
